Russell's a special guy...

Brand lands US stand-up special

Russell Brand’s assault on America is to continue – with his own hour-long Comedy Central stand-up show.

The comic, who hit the US headlines when he hosted MTV Video Music Awards last month, will tape the special in New York in November.

The show – which also promises ‘an eclectic roster of special guests’ – will air in the States in 2009. It’s likely a UK broadcaster will want to snap up the rights to air it here, too.

Elizabeth Porter, who is in charge of the career-making specials for Comedy Centreal said: ‘Russell Brand’s comedy is a perfect match for our audience. He’s a fresh new face with a rock-star aura and a unique and unpredictable act that pushes the envelope of comedy.

‘American audiences who have been exposed to Russell through Forgetting Sarah Marshall and the VMAs have seen just the tip of the iceberg."

Brand added: ‘Comedy Central is the home of South Park, The Daily Show and The Sarah Silverman Program. I am thrilled to have such esteemed neighbours – particularly Sarah whom I shall be constantly troubling for cups of sugar and milk, breast milk.’
