America takes a Peep...

US pilot episode shot

Peep Show is being remade for American TV.

Filming has just been completed on a pilot of the Channel 4 sitcom, based on a script from original writers Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong.

Virtual unknowns Rob Chester Smith and Brad Morris have been hired to play the Robert Webb and David Mitchell roles respectively.

The pilot, being made for the male-skewed Spike TV network, retains the first-person camera angles and voiceovers of the original.

Writing on his blog, Smith said: ‘The shoot went exceptionally well. Everyone in the cast brought exactly what was necessary and then some.

‘Now that the photography is done, we still have to record voiceover here in L.A., and then we just insert our thumbs in our asses and wait for the executives at Spike to decide whether or not to take it to series.’

The British version of Peep Show is entering its sixth series – and is shown on BBC America in the US.

This isn’t the first attempt to fashion the sitcom for the US, as the Fox network ordered a pilot episode in 2005. However, nothing ever came of it.
