ITV drops Brand's comedy

Cast problems blamed

ITV1 has reportedly dropped the Russell Brand sitcom The Abbey.

The comic’s blossoming Hollywood career is said to be a major factor in the decision – as getting the cast together to film the planned six-part series has proved problematic.

A pilot of the comedy, which aired last year, also starred Omid Djalili, Reece Shearsmith, Liz Smith and Miranda Hart.

It was created by Morwenna Banks, who also played the role of a rock musician who set up the rehab centre where the series was set.
