End of the line for Gavin & Stacey?

Show may end after Christmas special

The current series of Gavin & Stacey could be the last, say its creators.

Writers James Corden and Ruth Jones are currently working on a Christmas special of the show – but say there may not be enough mileage in the idea for a third series.

‘We never intended to write a second series let alone a third,’ said Jones, who also plays Nessa in the BBC3 comedy.

‘We don't want it to become predictable. We will see how the Christmas special goes and take it from there.’

Corden, who plays Smithy, added: ‘We will write one if we can make it better. We have to be true to ourselves.’

If they do decide to quit, they will be following in the footsteps of Extras and The Office, which both finished after after two series and a Christmas special.

Gavin & Stacey won the audience award for programme of the year at last night's Bafta awards.
