Even more Outnumbered

BBC renews semi-improvised comedy

The BBC has ordered a second series of semi-improvised comedy Outnumbered – but this time for BBC Two, rather than BBC One.

Filming has just begun on the new episodes, which star Hugh Dennis as harassed father of a regal six-year-old, an eight-year-old boy with a penchant for lying and a lovelorn 12-year-old.

The original series aired on the BBC’s flagship channel last summer, with all six episodes broadcast over just nine nights. Despite the unusual scheduling average ratings were just under three million, reasonable but unspectacular.

Critical reaction was mixed, varying from ‘very funny indeed’ in the Sunday Times to its daily stablemate criticising ‘crass sitcommy’ payoffs.

The show is written by Drop The Dead Donkey creators Guy Jenkin and Andy Hamilton, and the cast also includes Claire Skinner and Samantha Bond.

Meanwhile, the Fox network is working on American version of Outnumbered.
