Polls open in Chortle Student Award

An extra place in the final of the Chortle Student Comedy Award is to go to a people’s choice candidate, it has been announced.

Ten finalists have already been chosen from a series of heats across the UK.

But now an additional competitor will take their place at the showcase Edinburgh Fringe final, based on the votes of Chortle readers.

More than 100 contestants took part in the heats, and two-minute clips from each of their sets are now available in our Student microsite.

Click on the name of the heat to view all the acts; then click here to vote for your favourite. You can only vote for one act across the whole competition, and suspicious votes will be discounted. The judges’ decision is final on this.

Polls are open until the end of April, and the winner of the People’s Choice place will be announced on May 1. Up for grabs for the winner of the final is £1,000 – plus all the kudos of being named the best student comedian of 2008.

Also announced today is the date and venue of the final: 11pm on August 12 at the Pleasance Ace Dome.
