Lock pens film script

... and it's all about comedians

Sean Lock is writing a film that challenges the dramatic stereotype that stand-ups are all bitter, cynical or ruthless.

The comic has been commissioned by Channel 4 to produce a script, which he says is ‘virtually a masterpiece’.

And the 15 Storeys High creator said he wanted to avoid the clichés writers use when creating comedian characters.

‘They have been badly represented in the media, in films and plays,’ Lock told the Liverpool Daily Post.

‘The lazy stereotype is of a bitter, twisted old hack who thinks time has passed him by or a ruthless viscous comic who walks over anyone to get to the top. There is far more to them than that, and there is a gap there.’

But he doesn’t expect to land a starring role in the as-yet untitled movie, which he has almost finished writing. ‘Films get made because they have film stars in them,’ he admitted.
