Family Guy spin-off planned

Cleveland could get his own series

Family Guy character Cleveland Brown could be getting his own spin-off series.

The Fox network is developing a possible new animation about Peter Griffin' sensible, but henpecked, black neighbour, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The show, tentatively titled Cleveland, is being written by Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, Mike Henry, who voices Cleveland, and Rich Appel, an executive producer on MacFarlane's other show, American Dad.

The character was added to Family Guy after network executives asked McFarlane to add an African-American character to the show.

Family Guy was cancelled twice by Fox in 2000 and 2002 but strong DVD sales and growing ratings in re-runs prompted a revival in 2005, and the franchise is now worth an estimated $1billion.
