Grammer becomes Scrooge

Frasier star signs up for Dickens spoof

Kelsey Grammer is to play Ebenezer Scrooge in a satirical update of A Christmas Carol.

David Zucker – who directed Airplane!, the Naked Gun films and Scary Movie 3 and 4 – is updating the Dickens classic to the modern day.

The new script, which Zucker co-wrote with Myrna Sokoloff, ‘lampoons contemporary American culture, particularly Hollywood’, according to trade bible Variety.

Zucker will also direct An American Carol when production starts in Los Angeles later this month.

Frasier star Grammer previously played a more faithful version on Scrooge in a 2004 version of the Dickensian tale.
