Big screen Boosh

BBC Films are working on 'the perfect project'

A movie version of The Mighty Boosh is definitely in the pipeline, BBC Films have confirmed.

Fans will be delighted with the news the corporation's cinema arm is in talks with Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt to make the long-awaited feature-film version of the TV show.

‘It's a perfect BBC project,’ BBC Films editor Christine Langan told Hollywood trade journal Variety.

‘Noel and Julian are phenomenally talented, there's an existing, very loyal fan base, and the project has huge potential.’

The duo are said to be writing a script, but filming is not likely to start until early 2009.

The Boosh started as an Edinburgh show, before evolving into a radio comedy, produced by Danny Wallace, and then a BBC Three show made by Steve Coogan’s production company Baby Cow.

Rumours of a big-screen version have been circulating for the past two years.

In 2006, Fielding said: ‘We'd desperately like to make a Mighty Boosh movie. I think it would work better in a film than it does on telly.

‘Half an hour is too short a time for us. We need to explore the worlds that we're in and at the moment we're struggling to get everything in.’
