The first Sein of a new sitcom?

Seinfeld hints at TV comeback

Jerry Seinfeld says he is toying with the idea of writing a new sitcom about married life.

The comic vowed not to return to sitcom when he bowed out of his self-titled show in 1998, even though it was one of the most successful comedies in American broadcasting history.

But in an interview on Australian TV to promote his Bee Movie, the comic admitted that he has been contemplating a show about married life since he tied the knot with Jessica Sklar in 1999.

‘All my friends are married and I always think of all the stuff that we do – you know I would love to do it in a sitcom,’ he told presenter Andrew Denton.

‘And I guess if I did another sitcom it would be about marriage. I'd just call it Mrs Seinfeld.’

‘To me the funny thing about being single [is that] I had married friends and I wouldn't visit them when I was single because I thought their life was so pathetically depressing.

‘And then, now that I'm married and I have single friends, I feel I don't really like to be with them now 'cos I find their lives trivial and meaningless.

‘And I think in both cases I was correct.’

He also flattered his hosts, saying: ‘All comedians that I know love Australia because of the humour in the culture. The people are funny and like to have fun and their laughter is always very near the surface - you don't have to work too hard to get it.’
