Owen Wilson's 'suicide bid'

Star rushed to hospital

Hollywood star Owen Wilson has been rushed to hospital in what has widely been reported as a suicide attempt.

According to US tabloids, the Wedding Crashers star cut his wrists and took a number of pills before he was discovered by a family member.

Wilson, 38, issued a statement from St John's Hospital in Los Angeles saying: ‘I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time.’

The hospital says that Wilson is in a good condition.

The incident has jeopardized a number of comedy movies he has in the pipline.

He was due to begin filming a starring role in Tropic Thunder, directed by Ben Stiller, imminently. Some scenes have already been shot in Hawaii

DreamWorks, which will release the film next summer, said simply: ‘Filming on Tropic Thunder' continues,’ but it is not clear whether his role would be recast.

Wilson is also set to appear in another comedy, Marley & Me, opposite Jennifer Aniston, but 20th Century Fox told trade journal Variety it was ‘totally inappropriate’ to comment on the movie’s fate.
