New site for comedy videos

Another website showcasing user-generated comedy has gone live today.

ConstantComedy has also signed up some circuit stand-ups, such as Zoe Lyons (pictured), Cole Parker, Tiernan Dioueb and Rob Heeney, to provide clips for the launch.

The site has the usual interactive functions, such as rating each video and leaving comments, as well as allowing users to set up a network of friends who use the site, Facebook-style.

Its gimmick, though, will be the ability for a number of users to view the same footage at exactly the same time, second-by-second, and ‘vote off’ clips they don’t like.

Each video is shown for 20 seconds before voting starts. After than, if the crowd approval rating drops below 30 per cent for more than five seconds, the video stops.

The site has been set up by independent TV production company Wild Rover Productions.

Managing director Phil Morrow said: ‘This is a great new venue for both viewers and makers of comedy. The internet has liberated performers. If you’re funny, you can get your stuff out here and be seen by a worldwide audience.’

ConstantComedy is the latest site aiming to build up a bank of comedy content submitted by users, which it can then sell advertising against. However, last week, American broadcaster HBO announced that it was dropping its online comedy site.
