Five is ready to Rock

30 Rock heads to UK

Channel Five has picked up the rights to air US sitcom 30 Rock in Britain.

The broadcaster will be able to show the first and second series on terrestrial TV and on its digital stations.

The NBC progamme, set behind the scenes of a fictional comedy sketch show called The Girlie Show, stars Alec Baldwin as a humourless network executive.

It attracted critical plaudits, but few viewers – with just seven per cent of 18 to 49-year-olds tuning in.

However, the network still renewed it for a second series, hoping to repeat the success it has had with The Office, which also got off to a rocky start but is now a hit.

Earlier this week it was announced that Jerry Seinfeld would be making a guest appearance in the first episode of series two, a rare return to TV for the sitcom king.
