Reality TV hunt for next Spamalot star
The next star of Monty Python’s Spamalot is to be chosen by a new reality TV show – in Sweden.Hopefuls in the TV3 programme West End Story will compete to replace Hannah Waddingham as Lady Of The Lake in London’s Palace Theatre.
Open auditions will be held in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmo, from which 12 contestants will be chosen. One will be voted off in each of the subsequent live shows until only the winner is left.
The series will take place over nine weeks, with the winner announced in February next year.
The format, similar to Any Dream Will Do and Grease Is The Word, has been devised by Anna Carrfors Bråkenhielm, who developed the early reality show Survivor nearly a decade ago.
Waddingham has been playing the Lady Of The Lake since Spamalot opened last October.
