Spinals tap Ricky

Gervais set for Wembley gig?

Spinal Tap want Ricky Gervais to join them on stage at their Wembley comeback this summer.

The spoof rock supergroup will be performing at the Live Earth extravaganza to highlight climate change on July 7.

And Rob Reiner, who directed the 1984 mockumentary which launched them, says he’s hoping the comic will make a guest appearance.

‘I'm hoping that Ricky Gervais is gonna be there,’ he told London’s XFM radio station. ‘We're trying to convince him right now.’

However Reiner hinted that Gervais would not just be introducing the band – saying that was a job he would do as documentary maker Marti DeBergi, the character played in the film.

‘Marti DeBergi is definitely going to introduce Spinal Tap,’ he said.

Gervais is already a friend of band member Christopher Guest, making a guest appearance in his 2006 film For Your Consideration.
