Rare Peter Cook gem released

Michael Rimmer gets DVD outing

A little-seen Peter Cook film is to be released on DVD for the first time next month.

The Rise And Rise Of Michael Rimmer, which also stars John Cleese, has been acclaimed as a ‘brilliantly observant satire of Seventies British politics’ and is a sought-after rarity among Cook fans.

Written by Cook and Cleese, plus Graham Chapman and Kevin Billington, the 1970 film also includes a rare acting appearance buy playwright Harold Pinter.

The plot concerns the ruthlessly ambitious Michael Rimmer (Cook) manipulating, cheating and murdering his way to dictatorial power, with a ‘charisma-heavy’, ‘policy-light’ style of leadership.

It has been digitally restored for the DVD release on the Digital Classics label on June 25. Click here to preorder from Amazon.
