I'll get me Mac...

The week's comedy trivia

  • Simon Pegg wrote his university dissertation on 'a Marxist overview of popular Seventies cinema and hegemonic discourses'.

  • Those ubiquitous Apple Mac adverts aren’t the first time Mitchell and Webb have flogged computers to earn a quick buck. ‘We were playing a small gig in Birmingham, but it didn't earn us enough money to pay for our fares out of the city,’ David Mitchell once told an interviewer. ‘[We got] a temporary job selling computers. We did that for two days, just pushing software. When we'd raised the train fare, we moved on. Unfortunately, it gave me a rather downbeat memory of Birmingham.’

  • Aussie stand-up Adam Hills reckons ‘every really successful comedian is very, very slightly effeminate’.

  • David Walliams is apparently up to his old tricks down under, snogging a waitress at a party thrown by Billy Crystal in Sydney. While in Australia, he’s also flirted by text with a radio promotions girl, and met up with his ex, Emily Scott, who Aussies have just voted their favourite FHM pin-up. And, of course, he didn’t waste any time once he found out Kylie was single again. ‘She's gorgeous and I hope she's doing OK,’ he said. ‘She's got my number if she wants to get together for a laugh.

  • Thanks to the hardnosed investigative journalism of commuter freesheet The London Paper, we now know hat Ruby Wax would rather wipe her snot on George Bush than Jade Goody.

  • Janey Godley was in London’s luvvie haunt The Groucho Club last week, where she ran into Sophie Ellis Bextor ‘I love your song Murder on the Dance Floor,’ said the brash Scottish comic. Because I once saw a murder on a dance floor back in Glasgow.’ Janey says: ‘She was so nice, yet maybe slightly frightened.'

  • American comic Andy Dick was thrown off the Jimmy Kimmel Live chat show in the States for trying to touch up Ivanka Trump. And here’s the footage…
