Grammer 'set for TV return'

Frasier star's next role?

Frasier star Kelsey Grammer could be returning to TV comedy in a new show set in a local TV news station.

The actor is being lined up to play an anchorman in Action News, opposite Patricia Heaton of Everybody Loves Raymond.

The TV arm of 20th Century Fox is shooting a pilot, which trade journal Variety believes will become the subject of a fierce bidding war among American networks.

No cast has officially been announced, but Heaton and Grammer are said to be in the frame.

The script was written on spec by Frasier writer Christopher Lloyd and Steve Levitan, who worked on Just Shoot Me, and the pair will produce the new show.

Frasier ended three years ago. Since then Grammer has provided the voice of Sideshow Bob for the forthcoming Simpsons movie.

He will also star as Professor Henry Higgins in a New York Philharmonic production of My Fair Lady in March.
