Leicester fest announces line-up

The line-up for the 14th Leicester Comedy festival has been announced with more than 230 events taking place over the ten days.

As usual many of the big tours will pass through the city during the festival – the most established event of its type in Britain – including Jimmy Carr, Paul Merton, Arthur Smith, Tim Minchin and Sean Hughes.

It takes place from February 9 to 18 in more than 50 venues across the city – from theatres to restaurants and even Gartree Prison and Glen Parva Young Offenders Institution, where festival regular John Ryan presents his men’s health-themed show Hurt Until It Laughs.

Many acclaimed Edinburgh shows from 2006 also feature in the programme – including Mark Watson, Count Arthur Strong, Shappi Khorsandi and if.comeddie nominees David O'Doherty, Paul Sinha and We Are Klang – as well as early previews of shows heading to this year’s Fringe.

And special events include fringe comedy nights in suburban pubs, the Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year Competition and Chortle’s Comedy Pub Quiz, on February 18.

Around 60,000 people are expected at this year’s event. For full details, visit the festival’s new website.
