Iraqi comic slain

Second such killing in a month

Another Iraqi comedian has been assassinated in Baghdad.

Mitashar al-Sudani, was shot several times as he drove to theatre offices on Tuesday, the international AP news agency has reported.

However police and Theatre Ministry officials would not confirm the death on the record, citing security concerns.

The 60-year-old , from Basra, appeared on TV and in stage comedies and was best known in Iraq for an Eighties play in which he poked fun at life during the Ottoman Empire of the early 1900s.

It is the second killing of a comic entertainer within a month. On November 20, Walid Hassan, star of a TV satire called Caricature, was found with multiple bullet wounds to the head and back.
