Jo Brand has been awarded a second honorary degree - and now says she wants to be addressed as Doctor Doctor.

The comic received the Doctorate of Letters at a University of Kent graduation ceremony on Friday, following an earlier honour by Brunel University, West London.

'I'm very surprised, because I thought they would go for someone in a suit who is well behaved rather than someone like me,' she said. 'It is fantastic for someone who wasn't particularly an academic at university.’

Brand, 49, has previously offered to help with stand-up comedy module at the university's school of drama.

'I have spent 20 years standing in clubs being abused and having stuff thrown at me,' she added. 'Who knows if that's good enough to get a doctorate - but that's what they said.
