MTV drops Brand

Chat show ends after 9 months

MTV is dropping Russell Brand's chat show 1 Leicester Square.

The show, which started in April, will end with a New Year's Eve special.

But his departure is more amicable than his 2001 sacking from the station, after he turned up to work the day after the September 11 attacks dressed as Osama Bin Laden.

A spokesman said: ‘It is always a difficult decision to end any show but Russell and the team have done a fantastic job and everyone at MTV is very proud that we were the first company to recognise his unique and exuberant talents.’

But rand will not be idle. He starts a new chat show on Channel 4 on November 24, scheduled against Jonathan Ross on BBC One, despite the ratings failure of his E4 show Russell Brand’s Got Issues.

And he has just landed his own Saturday night show on Radio 2, after being credited with helping digital station 6 Music bootst its audience by 40 per cent.
