Germany hails Borat

Award for Baron Cohen

Sacha Baron Cohen has been named the funniest man not to come from Germany.

The comic’s Borat character picked up the best international comedian prize at the German Comedy Awards in Cologne.

Producer of the sixth annual awards, Holger Hoffmann, told the Hollywood Reporter: ‘Most German comedy is fairly tame in comparison, and there was some worry that people would be offended.

‘But we held out. For German comedians, Borat is a revelation. It actually transcends comedy to become social and political commentary.’

Collecting his award, Baron Cohen’s Kazakhstani reporter said: ‘Good evening gentlemen and prostitutes. I love Germany. I love sex.

‘I will put this prize next to the only other one I won. From Central Asian Olympic Committee. For hitting gypsy with rock at 50 meters.’
