Awards nod for C4 sitcom

Channel 4’s The IT Crowd has been shortlisted for a major international TV award.

Its nomination for a Banff World Television Festival award is the first significant recognition for the Channel 4 sitcom created by Father Ted writer Graham Linehan.

Also nominated in the best comedy category is Ricky Gervais’s BBC Two show Extras, specifically the episode featuring Kate Winslet.

They are up against Desperate Housewives from America, The Rick Mercer Report from Canada and We Can Be Heroes: The Nominees from Australia

Jerry Ezekiel, who has chaired the Banff selection jury since the festival’s inception said: ‘This year’s programme-makers have set a new standard for quality. The cream of this year’s crop is an outstanding line-up.’

Winners will be presented with their awards in the Rocky mountains resort of Banff on June 12.
