A falling Starr

Freddie axes gig as ticket sales slump

Freddie Starr pulled out of a gig hours before it started – after selling less than ten per cent of the tickets.

He then raged against the town of Blackpool, and the owners of the Opera House where he was due to play, blaming them for the poor ticket sales.

Starr blasted that the resort was ‘finished’ and vowed never to return after selling just 252 tickets for the 3,000-capacity venue last night.

His decision to pull the show outraged fans who had traveled to the gig, only to be told the show was off when they arrived at the venue.

But then he told the Blackpool Gazette: ‘Blackpool's finished.  I don't think I'll come back. I don't want to see Blackpool like this. It really hurts me.

‘I love this town, but I won't be buried with it.’

He claimed that Opera House owners Leisure Parcs ‘don't care about shows - they just want casinos’ and so had failed to promote his show properly.

‘How is it that I play elsewhere to big audiences but not here?’ he complained.
