Mel & Griff return

New sketches for BBC One

Mel Smith and Griff Rhys Jones are to revive their comic partnership for the BBC.

They will perform some new close-up head-to-head dialogues – the format that became their trademark – for the forthcoming Smith & Jones Sketchbook series.

But most of the show will involve repackaging their best work from the Eighties -  the same format that recently proved so successful in resurrecting  The Two Ronnies’ sketches.

Smith and Jones will also provide a commentary on the background and the making of their series, which ran from 1984 to 1988.

Production has already started on the six-part show, which is being made by Talkback Thames.

It will air on BBC One next year.
