Eddie Izzard has made the top five bestsellers on iTunes; making his the bestselling stand-up album digital download ever.

His latest album, Circle, is currently No 5 on the UK chart – between the Sugababes and The Prodigy.

It has been available as an exclusive pre-release on the Apple music site for the past week, ahead of its release on Monday.

Mike O’Brien, of record label Laughing Stock, said he was delighted with the success of the success of the MP3.

Circle – in which discusses such topics as the Crusades, mad cows, and the Deathstar canteen-  was recorded live in New York in 2000, and was released on DVD three years ago.
