Wits out for the lads

Kay tops FHM comedy poll

Wits out for the lads

Peter Kay has been named the funniest stand-up by readers of FHM magazine.

The comic has barely performed live in the past year, but he still attracted more than half of all votes in the lads’ mag’s annual comedy poll – three times as many as nearest rival Ricky Gervais.

Gervais, however, did triumph in the best stand-up DVD category, with twice as many votes as second-placed Richard Pryor, Live in Concert.

Gervais said: ‘I’m really chuffed with this. I’ve won just about every award and poll going for the last few years for The Office, but not one for my stand-up.

‘I’m a relative newcomer to the live comedy scene, and I think this is encouraging.’

True to form, when asked to name the funniest woman, ‘none of them’ was the top answer from FHM readers, followed by Catherine Tate and, bizarrely, Matt Lucas’s creation Vicky Pollard in third.

Little Britain was, predictably, the best TV show  with Anchorman the funniest film.

Chris Rock was voted ‘funniest foreigner’ ahead of Scrubs’ Zach Branff and stand-up Dara O’Briain.

But bad news for Graham Norton, who was named worst comedian, beating even Jim Davidson and Bernard Manning to the title.
