Rare British dates for veteran US stars

Veteran American comic Stan Freberg is performing a rare British live date for a new Radio 4 series.

The 79-year-old satirist and impressionist has been dubbed “the last network radio comedian in America” because of his work in the Fifties, but he is best known for his hit records parodying the likes of Elvis Presley, Lonnie Donegan and Harry Belafonte.

He is performing at London’s Comedy Store on September 19 in a gig to be recorded for Radio 4.

It is one of two live shows to be fronted by a comedian of a different type, political activist Mark Thomas.

The other programme features The Firesign Theatre, a surreal California-based group established in the Sixties. Their bestselling albums combined rock music, hippy culture, and detective drama from the golden age of radio

Their Mark Thomas Presents... show will be recorded on October 3.

Tickets for both are free (for over-18s only), and available from the BBC Ticket Unit. Click here for Freberg or here for The Firesign Theatre.
