Adams' relatives appear in Hitchhiker movie

Relatives of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy author Douglas Adams are to appear in the new film of his creation.

His mother, sisters, brother and daughter all feature as extras in tribute to the writer, who died after a heart attack in 2001..

Executive producer Robbie Stamp said: "They are extras in the scene when earth learns of its impending destruction.”

Writing on the film’s official website, he said that, 12 weeks into the shoot, he felt “pride that we have come this far and real sadness that Douglas is not here to share it."

He added: “Each time I have stepped onto a new set and seen the attention to detail that has gone into the planning for this film, it has been a bittersweet moment.”

The film, due for release next June, stars The Office’s Martin Freeman is to play Arthur Dent and rapper Mos Def as Ford Prefect.
