Priests wanted for stand-up show

Priests from faiths across the board are to be given lessons in stand-up, before performing a showcase gig at the Liverpool comedy festival.

Organisers are now seeking spiritual leaders to take part, and have attracted Sikh, Hindu, Methodist and Anglican would-be comics.

But no rabbi or Catholic priest has come forward - even though both religions have a strong reputation for humour. Most notably, American stand-up Jackie Mason, pictured, trained as a rabbi.

Gillian Miller of the Liverpool Comedy Trust said: "This project is a unique way of celebrating the many faiths in Liverpool.

"Each participant will work with professional comedians at workshops to ensure they'll be ready to tickle the city's funny bone at the Liverpool Comedy Festival in July."

The city's Lord Mayor Ron Gould promised: "It will be done in good taste and show a lighter side to faith and religion."
