Ban the blasphemer!

Nuns get their wimples in a twist over Capurro

An order of Catholic nuns has called for a ban on comic Scott Capurro, claiming his act is blasphemous.

The gay San Franciscan is due to play Liverpool's Neptune Theatre on Thursday, but at least one religious group is outraged over his X-rated routine about Jesus.

The Augustinian order of nuns at Ince Blundell Hall told the Liverpool Daily Post: "This is really not something suitable for Liverpool or anywhere else.

"I don't think that anyone could enjoy watching any religious founder being treated in this way, especially Jesus. The feeling here is that he should be banned."

But Capurro revelled in the controversy, saying: "I think it 's good to have a reaction.

"I think they are annoyed about me eroticising the Christ figure - like I'm the first person to do that. They've been painting him looking like a tri-athlete for years.

"I think if the nuns came to see me they would be giggling under their habits. "
