C4 crowns comedy king

Tom wins So You Think You're Funny?

Tom Wrigglesworth has won this year's So You Think You're Funny? talent hunt.

The 27-year-old Sheffield comic won the Channel 4-backed contest at the Edinburgh festival last night.

Runner-up was Andrew Lawrence, with Stuart Hudson taking third.

Judges on the night, which was hosted by Bill Bailey, included Bo! Selecta's Avid Merrion, three Channel 4 executives, and Helen Hawkins, editor of the Sunday Times Culture section.

More than 380 hopefuls entered the competition, now in its 16th year. Around 60 were selected to take part in semi-finals at the Fringe, with the top nine making the final.

Karen Koren, artistic director of the Gilded Balloon which runs the competition, said: "I think they are all really good comics, and they've all got a great future."

Other finalists were Anna Crilley, Michael Fabbri, Anne Keirle, Matt Kirshen, Rodney Maques and Ed Petrie.
