Seinfeld comes to Edinburgh

...but only on film

Jerry Seinfeld's stand-up documentary Comedian is to be shown at the Edinburgh Film Festival.

The screenings will mark the British premiere of the film, which has so far only been seen on limited release in the US and Canada - and at an Icelandic film festival.

The 104-minute film traces Seinfeld's attempts to write a new stand-up set after years on TV, contrasting his self-doubt with the pushy confidence of up-and-coming act Orny Adams.

It will be shown at the UGC Cinema at 10pm on August 15 and at 2.30pm at the Filmhouse on August 17.

Comedian also features in another stand-up movie, Bitter Jester, which will be screened at the Fringe and which depicts the crisis of confidence which hit circuit stalwart Maija DiGiorgio when she couldn't break into the big time.

The crew filming Seinfeld in New York's comedy clubs clashed with the makers of the smaller film an incident that made front-page news in the city at the time.

Bitter Jester will be screened at the Dominion Cinema on August 13.
