'Elderly' comedy fanzine launched

One for the fans...

A new fanzine has been launched for devotees of 'elderly' British comedy.

Kettering, named for no particular reason, concentrates on some of the more obscure aspects of the art from the Fifties to the Seventies.

Editor Peter Gordon, of the Peter Cook Appreciation Society, has so far published one test issue to test the water.

He said he set up the magazine because "it struck me that everyone I knew who loved British comedy of the era had one show, film, LP or what-have-you they loved with a passion, one which, as far as they knew, everyone else had either never heard of or written off".

He added: "Reaction so far has been positive, so I'm definitely going to try to get another one done."

The pilot issue includes an appraisal of the British sitcom movie, reminiscences about the forgotten Radio 4 comedy magazine show If It's Wednesday It Must Be, and a re-evaluation of the impenetrable Spike Milligan movie The Great McGonagall.
