Gash for questions

Iannucci to front new C4 satire

Armando Iannucci is to front a new political comedy show on Channel 4.

Gash - allegedly named after technicians' slang for cut-up videotape - will go out over four nights from April 28, coinciding with local elections.

Filmed in front of a studio audience close to transmission, the show is Channel 4's first attempt at topical comedy since the much-derided 11 O'Clock Show ended in 2000.

A Channel 4 spokesman said: "Gash will try to compress 24 hours of the day's events into 24 minutes of talk, jokes, video footage, blindingly well-informed opinion, utter lack of balance and Armando Iannucci."

Iannucci, who previously fronted BBC2's Friday Night Armistice, is also known for his work behind the camera on I'm Alan Partridge and The Day Today.
