New club opens in Victorian theatre

Swansea is to get a new comedy club in a 114-year old theatre.

Acts including Morecambe and Wise, Charlie Chaplain and Laurel and Hardy have trod the boards of the Palace Theatre since it opened in 1888.

But no comic has performed there since a young Ken Dodd played 40 years ago.

The venue, with its horseshoe-shaped balcony, is one of only two theatres of its kind left standing in the UK.

Swansea Comedy Guild is to launch its monthly club at the 200-seater building on October 9.

It will run monthly, with November's event a Children In Need special.
