Morecambe and Wise-inspired comedy The Play What I Wrote is heading back to the West End.

It is also preparing for a UK tour - and could even be transferring to Broadway.

Hamish McColl and Sean Foley's show was a sell-out during its first six-month run, which ended in May, and it also collected an Olivier Award along the way.

The show, directed by Kenneth Branagh, will tour in the autumn, with only dates in Woking (September 24 to 28) and Milton Keynes (September 30 to October 5) announced so far.

Then it will return to the West End's Wyndham's Theatre from October 30 for a limited run until January 4.

McColl and Foley, also known as The Right Size, then hope to take the show to New York, even though Eric and Ernie never made it big in America. One disatrous appearance on the Ed Sullivan show was greeted with the review: "There was one curiously out-of-place vaudeville team called Morecambe and Wise, which should remain England's problem, not ours."

One of The Play What I Wrote's selling points was that it featured a surprise celebrity guest each night. During the first run, these included Sting, Jerry Hall and Ewan McGregor.
