Award-winners named

Veteran comic Eugene Levy has won a Canadian Comedy Award for his role as put-upon father in American Pie 2, wininning best male film performer.

But Made in Canada, a local satire on the TV industry, was the night's major winner

Star Rick Mercer was named best male TV performer and the series also won the writing and directing categories.

Best female TV performer was Janet Van De Graff, from a show called History Bites. She also won as funniest female improviser.

Actress Mary Walsh won was named best female film performer for her role opposite William Hurt in the comedy Rare Birds.

Karen Walton won best writing for the teen werewolf parody Ginger Snaps, Bruce Sweeney scooped best director for his satireLast Wedding.

In stand-up, best male was Shaun Majumder and female was Kristeen von Hagen.
