'The funniest thing I ever saw was my mate Kenny fall down a hole'

Angelos Epithemiou chooses his comedy favourites

Hello, here is my list of 8 to 10 funny things that have inspired me, by Angelos Epithemiou.

  Kenny

I know this is supposed to be things off the telly, but the funniest thing I ever saw was my mate Kenny fall down a hole in Neasden, when we were about 8. Unfortunately he permanently buggered his ankle and wrist but I laughed my head off and thought I wanna do something like that to make people laugh.

Minder

The next one is the beginning bit, title sequence from Minder when Terry is looking to buy a car off of Arthur. I always used to giggle at that, I’m not sure why it tickled me at the time, I think it’s coz it reminded me of my Uncle Apostolos buying a car off my dad who was a bit of a joker (thief)

Goodnight Sweetheart

Goodnight Sweetheart with the Rodney out of Only Fools and Horses, when he used to go down that Alley and end up in !1942!, that was good. It wasn’t funny, but it opened me up to the possibility of time travel, which is still a hobby of mine to this day.

Desmond’s

Remember the Desmonds? Excellent. I must say I enjoyed the banter in the barber’s shop. Nothing specific here, but I enjoyed the feel of the place, made me feel good.

I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!

Who can forget I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! Well I find that very funny, coz as you know, I’m a caterer and so I’m always interested in what people are eating. You can’t help but enjoy watching someone eat a pair of balls and a bum. It’s hilarious. I don’t think that made me wanna do comedy though, but it certainly made me think about the stuff I was serving in my van…i.e people will eat any old muck, there’s money to be made.

French Fields

How about French Fields with Anton Rogers. I can’t remember what went on it that, but I remember liking it I think. It was always on, I remember that. Did I like it? Yeah I think so.

Little and Large

Little and Large were good I think. One was small and one was big and luckily their names were the same as their sizes which was  bloody lucky coz if they hadn’t have had that I don’t think they would have made it coz I wasn’t sure about their act.

Superman 3

Superman 3. That was the best of the Superman films coz Superman had to fight himself in the junkyard. That could have gone on longer if I’m honest, but nobody listens to me about that sort of stuff. It had Richard Prior in it too. I think this film was the moment I thought. Yes, I’m never gonna make a film as good as that, I should probably try something like comedy.
