Saw him compere a gong show for new acts. Did a great job of keeping the audience focused and sympthetic. Maybe this kind of gig is where he is at his best
One of the worst comperes I have ever seen, as Chortle states things may seem observational but that's it. Terrible compere, I really would not want to see a set off him, would rather the refund.
Less of a compere, more of promoter / booker who wants to save the cost of a proper compere by doing it himself.
I watched spiky mike compere for a gig down the maze, and I found him to be a great welcome to the show, he made everyone laugh and also interacted with the audience. A great comic and would love to see him do more live performances.
Having been to a few of Mike's shows recently, I found him to do precisely what I'd expect a compere to do. He warms up the room, makes everyone feel included and creates a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. He runs a lot of clubs across the country, MCing at quite a few, I haven't seen him perform a set .... but then again that's not a comperes job ...and I have seen others who churn out the same old same old every time .... Nice chap, great compere.
I wholeheartedly agree with Chortle on this one. The Spiky one used to come to Just the Tonic and would mark the acts out of 10. It's a shame he never learnt anything from the huge pool of he was able to judge. One of the worst excuses for a compere / comedian I have ever come across
Actually, I'll take back what I said. He's awful.
I think he's a really bad compere and failed comic who now runs gigs. That's it. I am surprised that there hasn't be a flood of people writing comments on here, but that's because it could affect their business.
