Richard Morton

Musical stand-up Richard Morton has been a stand-up for more than 20 years. In 1990, he was a founder member of the Comedy Store’s topical Cutting Edge show, with producer John Connor once saying: ‘He was the key to why the show was successful’.

In 1997, he was given his special edition of Channel 5’s stand-up show The Comedy Store, and made his Edinburgh Fringe debut the following year.

He has also been a frequent support act on UK tours, warming up for the likes of Jack Dee, Lee Evans, Jo Brand, Lily Savage and Phill Jupitus.

As a musician, he released The Theme That Never Was is 2009 – an acclaimed album of fictional theme tunes to non-existent Sixities and Seventies TV shows.

Second Linda Smith tribute gig unveiled

Details of the second tribute gig honouring Linda Smith have been unveiled.

As Chortle announced last month, two benefit shows are being held in her memory – one in Sheffield on May 14 and one in London’s Victoria Palace Theatre on Sunday June 4.

Some of the line-up for the London gig has now been confirmed, with names including Jo Brand, Arthur Smith, Mark Steel, Mark Thomas, Richard Morton and Jeremy Hardy.

Smith’s colleagues on Radio 4's The News Quiz, Just A Minute and Sorry I Haven't A Clue, will also be doing special, compact versions of the shows for the first ever time on stage.

Musial acts include Phill Jupitus and The Humphrey Lyttleton Band, and Steve Gribbin will reform his musical comedy duo Skint Video for the occasion.

Proceeds from the gig - titled Tippy Top – will go to to Macmillan Cancer Relief, Marie Curie Cancer Care and the British Humanist Association, of which Smith was president.
