After a string of dead-end jobs, including waiter, building site labourer and Club 18 – 30 rep, Patrick McGuinness became an actor with That Peter Kay Thing, which he filmed while he was still working as a lifeguard at Horwich leisure centre. He went on to be doorman Paddy in Phoenix Nights, and didn’t leave his lifeguard job until work started on the second series. He reprised the role in the Max and Paddy: Road To Nowhere spin-off series. He also appeared in the second series of Sky One’s The Match. |

Made a living out of being Peter Kay's mate. How is this man doing venues like the MEN? Arthur Seaton, February 2011 |

I have been to many stand up shows of late, but this was one I was a bit disappointed with. Paddy is funny but never really looked comfortable on stage. Wasn't on stage as long as I think he could have been and seems to have an aggressive manner towards the audience. Some of the gags were very funny, but I probably wouldn't see him again. Shegsy, December 2008 |

If your mates aren't funny go and see him. He's like the funny guy in the pub. But not much more. Jack, October 2008 |

I saw his Dark Side tour and I was disappointed, I'm afraid. It was like his Paddy the doorman character, but more obsessed with sex.. The compere was funnier. Paddy was good on Sky One's Inside Wayne Rooney, though Ian, October 2007 |

Not as funny as Peter kay som, January 2007 |

Paddy is an absolute star and always has been. He just needed a way in and now he's found it he's not letting us down. This guy will be around for many years to come. Keep up the fantastic work Paddy. Ali Green (Greeny), December 2006 |

One word - awesome! A fantastic stand -p who works the audience brilliantly with a fabulous routine. But don't confuse his style with that of Peter Kay, as he says on his Dark Side tour: "Peter talks about the wedding day, I talk about the honeymoon." His Dark Side show was fantastic and he approached every one of the 100+ nights with the same wide-eyed enthusiasm of the first leg. If you get the chance to catch him live go for it. The lad is terrific!. An absolute joy to watch. He'll brighten up your days for weeks to come. Hannah, October 2006 |

Paddy is absolutely fantastic on tour, if he tours again you have to go see him. So funny you will be on a high for days. Louise, October 2006 |
