Ola The Comedian at the FHM Search For A Stand-Up Hero final

Olawale Gbaja-Biamila, who sensibly goes by the name of Ola The Comedian, is a vibrant, likeable performer who refreshingly encapsulates a young, urban spirit.

His material, unfortunately, is largely superficial – bitching about fat people in KFC, pouring scorn on a woman he saw with six toes (which seems more than a little unkind), and revealing how he exaggerated his British accent while in New York to please the ladies – but he has an infectiously playful spirit that’s very forgiving.

Ola is the sort of enthusiastic, charismatic act likely to be plucked from the circuit by TV producers seeking a presenter to appeal to a youthful demographic; though for the sake of his comedy career he should stick at the circuit to develop his material beyond the fun but lightweight which he currently peddles and into the more powerful.

I've seen Ola perform live on many occassions, and each time he does not let me down. His material is fresh, funny and engaging. Once of the best comedians I've ever had the pleasure of watching live.

I booked Ola a couple of months ago and he was great. Clever material with a really charming stage presence. Definitely be booking him again.

Only reason the word "lightweight" is used is coz he doesn't swear every 5 mins, or repeatedly talk about sex or drinking.

Breezy, December 2009

A great comic with a lot to offer. i agree the material could be developed with the potential to be a lot more 'powerful' but for a young man of 21, his acts do not fail to leave the audience's expectations raised. And surely that is a compliment of the utmost for any growing craftsman.rnrnGood Luck

the man who did this reveiw is a bit ignorant to say the least... Ola has alot of good intellectual material if you took the trouble of watching his one man show you'd see how dar you dismiss his material as "lightweight" and then praise mediocre comics take his joke about his father which he then flips on the audiences... hate to say this but the more reveiws i read here the more i suspect racial bias.
