Sparkly, funny, topical, not everyones cup of tea but then who is?. Doing quite well for himself and I hope he makes it all the way as he is a genuine lovely inteligent human being with more talent and integrity than most. Roisin 09.12.04

I have seen Nat Coombs several times over the last few years and have found his set something of a tonic to the safe, lowest common demoninator jokes some stand ups still think it acceptable to deliver. His slick, carefully honed character is not meant to be particularly likeable I dont think. But then I dont want a stand up to be my pub buddy, I want a bit of a challenge and I have always found he provides this, with dark and often bitterly wry jokes that touch on common themes but with an unusual and pleasingly fresh style and cool delivery. How dare any of you use the name of Bill Hicks in the same breath as this third rate copycat. Nat Coombs? Shit Coombs! I am totally offended by these posts from people who know fuck all about comedy. Never use Bill Hick's name so lightly ever again Andrew 03.12.04

I have seen Nat a couple of times, and heard his BBC 7 set this week. Unlike a lot of comics I don't think he's another Hicks wannabe. He did quite a lot of topical stuff on the Beeb thing and it went down well. He does demand something from the audience, but I don't think he demands to be liked. We don't need any more comics talking about wanking and splitting up with their girlfirends, so Nat is a refreshing change Alex 02.12.04

Having seen him a few times, I would never have considered Nat Coombs to be the Marmite of comedy that, by some of the comments here, it seems he is. I've seen him do well and I've seen him struggle. If you've been going 2-3 years I think that that is par for the course. The bottom line is that like the rest of us who have been going as long as he has, there is a lot of hard work to be done. But I think to compare him - or anyone else who has been going as long as him - to Bill Hicks is frankly ludicrous. Especially, as Bill Hicks evolved into Bill Hicks over many, many years. Good comics aren't there to be liked - sometimes they're not even there to be laughed at. They're there to make the audience see the world a little bit differently. What Nat Coombs is trying to do is the same thing Hicks was trying - to see the darkness in the light. Not the other way round. If you want nice, gentle comedy, go to a Bill Bailey gig. If you want easy laughs, go to a Little and Large gig. The simple fact that Nat has divided opinion on this board so completely shows he's doing what most comics aren't - making people think. Totally agree with the review. He's bogus, unoriginal and unfunny. Would make a great Blue Peter presenter though. Mcdermott 28.11.04

I think Nat turns off British audiences who have become insistent - if not dependent - on self-deprecation and faux modesty from comedians. He has a powerfully confident act that, when it works, works very well indeed. Liam Mullone 25.11.04
