Marlon Davis: I was in a coma for 12 days

Comic speaks of horrific car crash

Marlon Davis has revealed he spent 12 days in a coma after a car crash.

The comic was hospitalised for seven weeks this spring after cracking his skull and fracturing a cheekbone, after his car hit a tree as it left the motorway.

And he claims he was robbed as he lay unconscious.

Speaking on Sean Hughes's podcast, recorded over the summer but only just released, Davis said that whoever was first on the scene 'stole my trainers, my money and my Nando’s card.

'I can't remember anything. Blood was spurting everywhere the police said. I must have been in such a bad condition that [the thieves] thought to themselves, "Well, we've got all this good stuff here, might as well take it."’

He also spoke of his disorientation during his recovery, with his drug intake convincing him that he was going to meet Prince as he went for a brain scan and that he'd seen Jesus in his dreams.

'I kept trying to escape' he explained. 'I thought I was in another country … it was crazy … they pumped me so full of drugs I didn't know what was going on.'

Davis is now speaking about the incident on stage and shared his frustration at being advised to take time off from stand-up between his discharge in May and the end of July.

'Ah, yeah, it's all part of you,’ he said. 'It's like a junkie, I need it … they said just chill out for a bit, sort your head out. Then you can return to the people.’

But the comic declined to comment further on the incident when Chortle contacted his publicist.

On the same Under The Radar podcast, Hughes spoke of how close he came to being caught in the 2004 Asian tsunami while holidaying in Sri Lanka and Joe Rowntree revealed he was stabbed twice while in Barcelona in 2009.
