Miranda Hart

Miranda Hart

Date of birth: 30-11-1971
Miranda Hart has forged a niche as a comedy character actress, her size - she's 6ft 1in - and demeanour marking her out, like a modern-day Penelope Keith, for a certain sort of haughty role.

She has starred as Teal in two series of BBC2's comedy sci-fi series Hyperdrive, earning her a nomination for best female newcomer in British Comedy Award in 2006, and appears regularly as a clumsy cleaner in Lee Mack and Tim Vine's sitcom Not Going Out.

But her CV also contains appeances in French & Saunders, Nighty Night, Absolutely Fabulous, The Vicar of Dibley, Smack the Pony and The Abbey alongside Russell Brand and Morwenna Banks. She also appeared in the third series of Comic Relief does Fame Academy, but only lasted two shows,

Born in Torquay, she studied politics at Britsol before doing a post-graduate acting course in London. She first went to the Edinburgh Fringe in what she admits was 'a terrible show' called Hurrell and Hart. She has returned with more successful character shows several times since

Her first Radio 4 show, Miranda Hart's Open House, began in 2007, and is set to be a BBC Two sitcom in 2009.

Reports of Miranda's return fall down

Comic denies claims her sitcom is coming back

Miranda Hart has quashed rumours that her sitcom is to return.

The Sun today reported that she had written what would have been the first new scripts in seven years, delighting fans.

However, Chortle understands from a BBC source that there are no current plans for the shoe to make a comeback.

And the comic herself took to Twitter this morning to confirm as much, saying: ‘It’s lovely when some people get exited there might be more Miranda. Means a lot.

‘But I’m afraid what was in the papers today didn’t come from me. Nothing planned at this time.’

The reports stem from an interview the Torquay-born star gave to Devon Life magazine. In it, she   was quoted as saying: ‘A lot of lovely people have kept on asking for the return of Miranda so here we are and I hope everyone likes it.’

The magazine also stated that she would be returning to live shows as well as TV screens.

The last special aired on New Year's Day in 2015, with the comedian signalling it was likely to be the end as she didn’t wanther screen alter-ego ‘to keep falling over and making a fool of herself’.

Nevertheless, late last year Hart told The Gaby Roslin podcast that she was 'definitely thinking about' reviving the self-titled comedy.

She said then: ‘I've definitely had some thoughts of where [the characters] might be and what would happen with them all.

'The circumstances haven't quite aligned. But it is something that I would say that I'm now not ruling out.

'Whereas a couple of years after it had finished, I completely ended it and that was that.’

Miranda ran for three series on BBC One from 2009 to 2013, followed by two Christmas specials.

The cast co-stars including Tom Ellis, Patricia Hodge, Sarah Hadland and Sally Phillips reunited on stage at the London Palladium in 2019 to mark the show's tenth anniversary, which was later broadcast by the BBC as Miranda: My Such Fun Celebration.
