Mark Nelson to film a BBC Scotland stand-up special

Hometown gig to air later this year

Mark Nelson is to film a stand-up special for BBC Scotland.

The comic will be taping a show at the Theatre Royal. in his home town of Dumfries next month.

He tweeted the news to his 18,700 followers, saying: ‘So, pretty big news.  The BBC have given me a TV special to be broadcast later in the year.  

‘My own TV special. I’m as surprised as you are.’

Nelson is known to listeners of BBC Radio Scotland as host of the panel show The Good, The Bad and The Unexpected – while he became a viral star six years ago thanks to videos he made with his daughter Isla.

In 2021 he was one of three stand-ups –  along with Jo Caulfield  and Ninia Benjamin– who shared the UK Comedian’s Comedian Of The Year title.

His TV special is being made by Dabster Productions, which makes The Good, The Bad and The Unexpected and has previously made radio stand-up shows featuring the likes of Rosie Jones, Terry Alderton and Janey Godley
