So very sad and so unexpected. For a long time she was one of the funniest and most likeable presences on R4, and everything I hear about Linda now - like her presidency of the Humanist Society - just reinforces how interesting and admirable she was. The first line I remember of hers was "the rouble is now not worth the potato it's printed with". Deepest sympathies to her family and friends Kate, March 2006 |

Linda, in life, brought tears to my eyes on her every News Quiz appearance. I learned of her recent death on that same programmes and once again there are tears in my eyes. Rest easy Linda. We loved you! PJ Curtis, March 2006 |

I only encountered Linda's work about a year ago and now I'm very sad to hear of her passing - she made me laugh all the way to the other end of the world here in Tasmania. She made the world a better place. Rob F, March 2006 |

Listening to the News Quiz on my regular evening drives across country was always more enjoyable when Linda was on. She had a unique delivery and such a sharp wit. I, and many others will miss her. Condolences to her family. God bless. Andy, March 2006 |

I knew Linda for much of the 80's - exciting times for many of us fighting the Thatcher misery. Committed, honest, and more than anything a laugh in all that earnestness. She will always be an important part of my history. My thoughts are with you Warren. Pat McCarthy, March 2006 |

I missed all the news this week. Then my friend just told me about lovely Linda. That's when the world is unfair, what a lady. There's a big hole thats unlikely to be filled, with the loss of such an inspiring and honest voice. and a big, honest heart. Love to you Linda SP, March 2006 |

I can't believe I'm this sad about the death of someone I never met. She will be sorely missed. When I listened to the News Quiz's tribute I realised just what a brilliant, inventive and witty performer she was. Linda Smith is a tragic loss. Caitlin Ellis, March 2006 |
